Moodboard Monday: Mad for Plaid!

Maybe I'm just feeling a little more traditional this Fall, or maybe I'm just so tired of chevrons, stripes and trellis patterns - but this Fall, I've gone Mad for Plaid!! It's not that I'm going to plaster it all over the place, or wear every plaid pattern at once - but I think it will be a refreshing pattern to layer in our home (especially here out west!) I've even been thrifting for a few accents to layer into my fall / winter wardrobe (I'll share those later this week). I think just like when wearing a leopard accessory, only one dash of plaid is needed, for example a scarf or a handbag - but I have also seen various plaids mixed in menswear.  In the home, you can definitely layer plaids to create a cozy mood for fall / winter. The trick is layering plaid patterns in different scales or sizes. This would work great to refresh the pillows on a sofa or bed. If all the layering is too much, one accent of plaid can really tie a room together like a rug or accent wall...

There are a few different looks and styles that can be created from plaids - from English Country to a Wilderness Cabin look to mixing Menswear. Even some popular TV shows are set in periods where many garments are layered with plaids, for example HBO's Boardwalk Empire. Popular plaids for Fall / Winter are tartans, buffalo check, and glen plaid.

Later this week I'll share some of my thrift scores, finds and what I spotted while out thrifting this weekend. I spotted quite a bit of plaid (or should I say Bit O' Plaid??) I may even try a little more "mixing it up" plaids with other patterns for Fall. Speaking of mixing up... Check out this awesome board mixing Fashion + Decor in honor of New York Fashion Week last week... featuring a plaid wallpaper by Graham & Brown called Audrey.

The days are getting shorter, and they are cooling down (just a bit) as well... It should be long now before Fall is really in the air! Plaid can be great to use in a guest room, and now is the time to get that room ready for friends & family visits during the holidays...
