WOW! What a contest! Some amazing boards were created for this latest Olioboard challenge, sponsored by Zinc Door and judged by DesignMilk and Freshome. I think this may have been their largest amount of entries to date... probably because so many more people are starting to discover the fun + ease of using Olioboard and its new ProPlan tools. Another reason so many boards looked so fun and colorful? The terrific selection of colorful, fresh, and fun Zinc Door merchandise participants had to work with, to include in their boards! One - Even though she placed third in the challenge, this was her first challenge entry 

and a WIN!

Secondly - She just happens to be a super-duper great friend of mine (one of THE best!), I love and who lives in South Florida. We met back in '98 while we attended the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale studying Interior Design. We had drafting, architecture, decorative arts, renderings, and 3D drawing classes together (to name a few).

In 1999, she married the love of her life, Dean Anthony and became mother to two AMAZING, beautiful and blessed little girls: Vanessa and Emily. During that time, she put most of her design career on hold to lovingly care for her family. She's even home schooled her girls and heads up several church functions in her community, along with assisting her husband's brand by designing his website + organizing several boat shows in Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale. Since the girls are growing up, she tapped back into her passion of design. Recently, she assisted clients as a Designer at Thomasville, but has since ventured off on her own (mainly because it went against her design principle - "designers" at retail furniture stores do not get to truly design because they are basically responsible for selling the company product). Coastal Cottage Moodboard Challenge Wrap-Up

Hey everyone & Happy Monday!I I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend - with friends family and projects! For this Monday's Moodboard Monday, I'm kicking off the collaborative blogger feature happening over at Olioboard. I was invited to join a team of 5 bloggers, plus the Olioboard co-founder Sheilah MacSporran to bring you the Coastal Cottage Challenge. Each of us bloggers selected a room in a cottage to design and a day of the week to post about it. In seven days you'll be seeing seven completely different takes on Coastal Cottage Style. The room I selected was the Studio / Library, but my coast I had in mind when designing my board was someplace in Europe - think the coast of England... (click board to enlarge image)



Cottage Chic Studio - Board Within A Board

One of the applications I enjoying using on Oliobaord is the ability to upload your own images. This is great because you can easily add your inspiration images to your board, which really helps to set the "mood" for it. I tend to use my inspirational images off to the left, and then build the rest of the board with the items I'd select for the space. For this Studio / Library, I imagined more of a workspace for an upcoming fashion designer. The ikat print of the sofa relates to the Tudor style exterior of the cottage. Lighting is important, so this studio would have a mix of overhead lighting for the work space, lamps on the desk and within the conversation area, and hangman-like scaffold light fixtures grazing the textured walls. Bookcases are a must and they would anchor the space as the focal point, running along the back wall. Turned leg style furnishings would mix with functional clean line pieces for an eclectic coastal mix. Adding to the coastal style would be the rustic reclaimed timber floors. A mix of black and white patterns would add playful sophistication creating a chic cottage studio.

For the above board, I created a "board within a board", to be able to show the elements used set as a room, but you can still get a sense of the mood. Below is the smaller board within the board...

If the studio / library were for a painter, I'd include more mobile bookcases and industrial pieces for the space, like etegers on casters and rustic wooden carts for side tables. Less textiles would be used in the space, but storage baskets could hold them, (like extra pillows or throws for a chill). Ladders and lighting again would be important to use in the space. Although still with its rustic charm, a chrome sawhorse glass top desk would add some shimmer and shine to reflect light in the space. The stone walls would be painted white, and be used to showcase the painters creations in the studio. And not all storage would be open. I'd also include some concealed storage with a rustic buffet, that would be weather worn and covered in multiple layers of dripped paint. A slipcovered sofa would make for easy clean-up... or on a whim, the painter could create a pattern of her own...

New Moodboard Monday Series: Promos & Challenges at Olioboard

Hey everyone! Hope you enjoyed your summer weekend - shopping, camping, tubing, or working on a fun DIY project! Thankfully the rain was on pause here, so I got to get out in the backyard garden for a bit. But Friday, I was honored to have received an invite to participate in an upcoming promo happening over at Olioboard.com - Seven Bloggers, Seven Days, Seven Amazing Mood board Designs. Over the weekend, some of the seven bloggers chosen for the promo selected which room each would create a board design for, as well as voted on one style we would all use. The styles we voted on were NY Penthouse (of course my number one choice!), a Farmhouse Renovation, and Coastal Cottage. And the winning vote between the bloggers was Coastal Cottage.

I joined Olioboard sometime last year, and it's been not only a great site to use as a tool for visual presentations to help clients visualize their space, it has also been a place to join in some creative challenges. OLIOBOARD CONTEST

A few days ago, while on Olioboard working on a new project, I took a look at what board challenges they had going on. One challenge that caught my eye was to design a party room for Snooki (of Jersey Shore) and her friends. Although I'm not a fan of the show - Jersey Shore - out of curiosity (and hey - I AM from Jersey!!), I have seen it a few times, so I thought I'd have a go at this challenge.

About the contest:

"Snooki from Jersey Shore has just hired you to redesign her party room. Girl likes to get her groove on, so create a space fitting for her and her girlfriends to party the night away!

Consider it the "Halloween" of designing boards. On Halloween, we dress up in our inner selves for the day/nite. So for the board, I let out my inner Snooki - gaudy, gold and flashy. If I would have had some leopard to add to the board I would have - but it was like 2AM when I started creating it. The challenge actually started back on June 21, so I had some catching up to do. Thanks to the use of social media - posting the board to FB - my wall and pages (including SNooki's!) and tweeting about the contest - I've managed to catch up and get into FIRST place. But I'd like to STAY there and I'll need your help to do it!

After using Olioboard, I uploaded the board to picnik.com to

add a frame and text.

The great feature on Olioboard is that you're not limited to only the items on their site. You can upload your own images. After creating the main part of the board, I searched Google for some other images like Snooki herself - in the most appropriate dress for the board - LEOPARD! Along with a New Jersey gold charm - I cropped and added to the dance floor, and of course - Snooki's crown: Guidette Princess.

This IS actually a pretty good shot of Snooks...

Too funny!
