CHRISTMAS BEDROOM WITH LAYERS OF WINTER WARMTH

Do you decorate your bedroom for Christmas? Last year, I had done green and white - it looked winter fresh, but nothing quite says "Holiday" like adding RED (especially to a grey + black + white bedroom!) Adding red to our bedroom for Christmas has always been a fave for us (remember "JOY"?) This year, the existing red quilted coverlet & shams I have was refreshed with a pair of plaid euro shams I found online at Pottery Barn earlier this year. Ironically, the shams are from a bedding group they featured last year, which had sparked my "mad for plaid" craze last Fall too. With the colder nights here in AZ for winter, adding extra layers for warmth is a must: the duvet gets covered, a blanket is added to the bed, plus I also layer up the rugs bedside. Recently I picked up a furry accent rug that paired great with the buffalo check rug I picked up last year, plus a few treasures from thrift. Here is our bedroom restyled for Christmas this year...

Collecting items over time, from favorite stores, bargain deals and thrift + some savvy shopping can help style a home without busting the budget. It's in the details, your story and the mix...

MIXING OLD & NEW - CHRISTMAS BEDROOM ReSTYLE 2013

Red Quilted RL Coverlet - HomeGoods - 2007
Red quilted shams - Pottery Barn - 2007
Silver Vase - Pottery Barn -  2008
JOY Pillow - Potter Barn - 2009
Plaid Euro Shams - Pottery Barn - 2013
B&W Pony Pillow - Sham - Turnstyle Consignment - 2013
Paisley panels (actually tablecloths) - HomeGoods - 2010
Buffalo Check Rug - Big Lots - 2012
Buffalo Check Scarf - Ross - 2011
Richard Calvo B&W Horse & Carriage Print - Art.com - 2007
(in black frame I had)

and a few finds from thrift... (mostly Goodwill)
Red Chairs - Goodwill ($12 for BOTH!)
Red Plaid Throw - Goodwill ($5)
Glass Candlestick Hurricanes ($5 for both)
Red & Green Books on the night stand
Brass pitcher & sconces
White Glass Dresser Lamps (Florida Faith Farm)

I was going to have switched the window panels to white with red ticking stripe, but with the black furniture, I like the way the black & white paisley panels anchor this side of the room, and frame the window. The white would have been too light looking plus still play well with the plaid & check mix...

The red book on the black box is a journal of ours called "All About Us" we've had since dating and the rock on the red stacked books is called Fools Gold we picked on while visiting Sedona, AZ this Fall...

Large or small - Love the look of fresh cut greens at Christmas!

Two small black urns from HomeGoods worked to hold two small arrangements on the thrifted book stacks on the night stands.Candles give warmth + change the lighting and mood in the bedroom - Just beware of greens near the flame when lighting them...

Although layers add interest in a space, I really love using a strong dose of symmetry when styling the bedroom...

Christmas Bedroom - Florida - 2007

When we first moved to Arizona, it was November 16, 2011, and I was still getting a feel for our new place...

Wanting to do something a little different, I went with a mix of fresh greens & wintry whites in the bedroom for Christmas 2012...

Ready & layered with winter warmth in AZ for Christmas...
