RED CARPET OSCAR STYLE & FASHION SKETCHES 2014

Did you watch the 86th Annual Academy Awards last night? It was a different kind of awards presentation - from all the pale style + metallic trends on the red carpet, to an epic selfie tweet pic from host Ellen DeGeneres. I remember even seeing someone tweet that they stopped watching the Oscars because they were enjoying the live tweeting more. I did a little of both, starting at around 2 in the afternoon. I love seeing all the presenters and nominees making their way down the Red Carpet, including having 'human' moments, as Jennifer Lawrence did when she so gracefully fell soon after exiting her limo. Over the years, the gowns of the Oscars have been featuring shades of blush, nude, champagne and gold, mixed with red carpet reds, and sophisticated blacks. This year, sheer, shimmering and metallic pastels dominated the red carpet looks. Last years red lips also got a bit paler in comparison. Although my personal favorite black still made its way onto the red carpet, the newness was more navy and midnight blue tones - including even for the men. Here are a few highlights...

If not 'the' Best Dressed of the night, Charlize will definitely be one of the Top 3...

Navy Newness - for him & her - on the Red carpet - Oscars 2014

Sandra Bullock looked stunning in Alexander McQueen while Amy Adams looked sleek in Gucci Couture. As for the guys, Jason Sudeikis looked dapper in Valentino and Kevin Spacey rocked a blue Burberry tux too.

One of the show stopper standouts, from her Cinderella-like gown to heartfelt speech was Best Supporting Actress Winner Lupita Nyongo wearing a beautifully flowing pale blue Prada gown with another trend of Oscar night: the plunging neckline...

Prepare to be pleased with the paler side of the Red Carpet - What dominated it the most, from sheer champagne, to almost wintry whites and nude tones in feminine and flattering silhouettes...

If you missed Mathew McConaughey's confounding acceptance speech - for winning best Actor in Dallas Buyers Club - you can watch it, read the analyzation + comments at Time Entertainment.

Even the E! Entertainment presenters wore whites, nude and metallic trends...

Kate Hudson brought back old Hollywood glamour in a Versace gown with a matching cape and plunging neckline.

Jared Leto, Best Supporting Actor rocked his locks in a two-tone tux from Saint Laurent.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior - Oscars 2014 - by Paper Fashion

Jennifer Lawrence looked statuesque (and oh so serious) in her signature couture Dior... a far cry from a few moments earlier, and especially moments later when she took part in the epic selfie, which not only broke Twitter from its retweets, but it also broke the record for the most retweeted photo on Twitter...

Watching the awards is a way to break-away from all the seriousness and sadly downward spiral of draining news-stories we all listen to virtually everyday. And now with social media, people don't just watch the awards, you can be apart of it - no matter where you're located.

LOVED this overlooked dress performer Karen O wore: an amazing black satin gown with plunging neckline by designed Camilla Staerk, paired with a Rau Wolf clutch.

  1. You nailed it in your observations. Great pairings. I often dislike many of the gowns but this year had manor that were simple and stylish.
