SPRING SPRUCE UP? TIPS TO GET FREE PAINT

Did you know FREE PAINT is available to help save you money while sprucing up your home for Spring? Although an article I read over the weekend in the Miami Herald was focused on my local South Florida area, I've also added some other links to help you out with your painting projects for spring.

your color inspiration can be free and just one can away!

WAYS TO GET FREE PAINT:

• FREE PAINT BROWARD: Leftover latex paint that residents drop off through Broward County Waste and Recycling Services programs are re-blended and repackaged as exterior paints in several hues, including turquoise, terra cotta and beige. The recycled paints are available in five-gallon buckets to Broward residents via participating municipalities. The paints also are offered at some public events, including Earth Day Extravaganza, April 25, at Plantation Heritage Park. For more information call 954-765-4999  www.broward.org/waste/paint_recycling_program.pdf

• FREE PAINT MIAMI-DADE: Usable leftover interior and exterior paints are offered, as is, from the Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management. The selection and availability vary based on what's been dropped off. The information is listed on the department's website.

To pick up paint or certain other dropped-off products, participants must be at least 18 and residents of Miami-Dade County. County facilities that offer items are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays at 8831 NW 58th St., Doral, and 23707 SW 97th Ave., Gate B, South Dade. For more information dial 311 in Miami-Dade or 305-468-5900  www.miamidade.gov/dswm
MORE WAYS TO GET FREE PAINT:  Put up an ad on Craigslist.org for your need of paint - exterior or interior. Be sure to let people know you are flexible and willingness to pick up the paint so they don't have to lift a finger. The ad needs to be placed on the wanted section of your local board. You can also just stop by a construction site and ask the foreman if they have any extra paint. Or if you live in an association, why not ask a neighbor if they have any leftover paint? (if you're sprucing up to sell, this is a great way to save some money).

This old house needs a little more TLC than just free paint...
