A COASTAL SUMMER TABLESCAPE

The heat and humidity have risen down here in South Florida... Both are true signs our summer is here. Although outside may be in bloom and pretty to look at, it can be uncomfortable to sit in for a meal. Since we had a barbecue yesterday (for Mother's Day), I brought in some of the feel of our surrounding area - the beach. I was also able to incorporate in some treasures we collected last year while visiting the West Coast, pull out our outdoor tableware, mix in a few natural elements, and switch around some of our homes accessories to create an indoor coastal inspired tablescape...

Had the Asian vessel, found on clearance
at Pier 1 outlet for $5, about 3 years ago.
Hadn't used it before because
I couldn't find the right space it "felt right" in...
Mixing this coastal look now became more global...

Brought back in (from the garage)
chocolate urns and bamboo poles
(3 poles for $10 at Pier 1).
Although I had gotten these 2 yrs. ago,
I believe they still carry them.

Found glasses on clearance last month
at Pier 1 for only .89 cents each
Picked up placemats at our local grocery store
(Publix) for only $2 each.

Used Red wine glasses to serve ice tea,
and blue glasses for water.

We enjoyed our delicious summertime grilled meal here
(beer chicken, ribs, corn-on-the-cob, potato salad,
mixed greens salad, fresh brewed ice tea and
strawberry shortcakes for dessert)

Not only was the space inspired by summer, the beach, and bringing out some shells... but the recent events happening in the Gulf are really hitting home... We just visited the West Coast of Florida for our anniversary last year and the "loop" and stream the oil spill is traveling in is going to affect the shores and marine life of South Florida...

Because I restyled our living room
(to better flow with the kitchen transformation)
I switched out the window panels in here...
They added more turquoise and pattern to the space...
(More about living room restyle and kitchen
transformation coming this week)

The throw on the railing was previously in the living room,
as a band of color on the sofa.
Here it added color, texture and warmth...

Had starfish (pack purchased at ZGallerie, 2 yrs. ago)
Shells in cylinders (with candles) we had collected last year
while visiting the West Coast of Florida...

Graphic pattern of outdoor dinnerware (plastic & found at Target 2yrs. ago)
worked with global mix, and relates back to the other
B&W elements in our home,
like the B&W rug in the dining space.

Found rattan wrapped carafe's at Marshalls at only $7 ea.
Simple fresh cut greens added color,
but kept the centerpiece at a low profile.
(Just walked out to patio and gave a palm a trim)

Even after the meal was over,
the elements gave a Summertime refreshed look to the space

This look would work to restyle a dining space to live,
or staged to sell...

Hope you enjoyed a wonderful
Mother's Day yesterday and maybe
you're inspired to create a Coastal-scape of your own...

Even though this was set for Mother's Day - it can be set for
any summer or seaside inspired tablescape.

  2. Great job, looks fab! Yeah, the oil spill is tragic. Much impact on an already stressed economy not to mention the wildlife issues.

  12. Thank you so much for visiting and taking the time to comment! :) Thanks for now following FP Cherry and Patricia!! Glad you liked the tablescape Marlis, Mimi, Mary, Barbara and Donna.

Thanks Linda! The turquoise wall color is from Ralph Lauren paints. It was one of the last gallons of his paint I got earlier this year at Home Depot. However - his paint can be found locally by visiting the website - or purchasing paint (or sample) on line.

This color was from his Vintage Masters collection called EMPEROR - VM126 - Eggshell finish. Hope this helped - Good Luck! And thanks again for stopping by...
