JOIN THE FIRST MONTHLY MOODBOARD MONDAY @OLIOBOARD: KIDS ROOM DESIGNS #BLOGHOP

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! As for me, I tried something new. I was invited to participate in a Olioboard BlogHop (happening right NOW!! Details below at end of post) but it was to design a board - a room - a space I've never done before: A Child's Room and / or Nursery. Since I'm not a mom, I had to do a little more research for this design than for an adult space. In an adult space, form sometimes reigns over function, but that can't really happen in a child's room. Both Form & Function need to also work with safety, scale and proportion. While searching for inspiration on Pinterest, and the Internet for child-friendly furnishings retailers, I also spotted some retailers (like Restoration Hardware) are making pint-sized adult furnishings! What a wonderful way to incorporate the look of your home into your child's space. Since I do not have kids, I looked up some baby names, and created four lifestyle boards at Olioboard for different age ranges of a boys life. I also tweeted a question that was repeatedly answered: "Once out of the nursery, a kids room should be able to grow easily, along with the kid." At the end of the post, you'll find link-backs to several other participating design blogs. Hop along for Moodboard Monday! Get inspired. Tweet all about it at #BlogHop, and join in at Olioboard to create your own board. You can also contact me or one of the designers whose aesthetic you like to create a board specifically for YOU!

Nautical Nursery Moodboard

AHOY! IT'S A BOY! NAUTICAL NURSERY - Nate's  Navigational Nook - Nautical inspired + Nate's father is a US Coast Guardsman.  A rustic painted flag mural sets the mood + focal point for this room, while the wood floors help to "anchor" the space with its textured linen walls. Mom & dad can take turns resting with Nate in a glider chair. A navy painted dresser / dressing table can be updated with nautical rope pulls or red & blue striped pulls. Open shelving adds storage. Hidden storage (for toys + diapers) are in striped bins. Extra blankets (for mom) are in her splurge piece: A Martin Lawrance-Bullard trunk side table, topped with a Ralph Lauren striped lamp. Nautical brass sconces  give subtle light to the changing table, w/o the worry of knocking over a lamp. A color-blocked rug relates to the nautical painted wood blocks - actually to spell out NATE. This bundle of joy has been a true "life saver", by giving purpose and meaning to the couple, hence the life saver wall decor. A vintage fisherman's ruler w/hooks can easily hold a wardrobe change, extra towels or extra throws. The modern crib can possibly be converted to a toddler bed in later years.

 Boys Playroom Roomboard

CAMDEN'S CREATIVE CORNER - Like father | Like son - collectibles, like vintage finds and license plates - help give this boys playroom space personality. Open shelves give space to display his creations, like the house model (future architect?) and storage trunks help to conceal some of those toys he's just not quite ready to let go of yet. A handy shelve under the miniature work table helps give EZ access to color pencils, crayon and scissors... but the table is also great to do homework on from his laptop.

Boys Tween Bedroom Roomboard

MAXX's MOONWALK MISSION - Vintage letters mounted on a photo moon mural spell out this boys pride + dreams...The good ole US of A and a walk on the moon - in his jeans, tee, Superman Converse sneaks with his dog, Rocket!

Tween or Teen Boy Moodboard -
but can also be inspiration for an adult space.

LIBERTY'S LOFT - ATTIC CONVERSION FOR TWEEN to TEEN to ADULT: Kids today are growing up faster so fast! And with kid-sized versions of adult furnishings - like at Restoration Hardware - it will be even easier to help keep up. This board design had an attic conversion in mind... Comfy bean bag chairs for friends to hang out in or play video games. Layered graphic rugs give the space personality while shelves, totes, trunks and case pieces give PLENTY of storage to quickly tuck-away clothes. A bunk bed with a desk maximizes space, while the look-a-like tufted chesterfield sofa (also from RH) makes you look twice: Is this an adult space? or for a tween? You decide - The mood can be inspiration for either! Liberty's Loft - An expression of trust & freedom.
