CLASSICS ON TREND: BLACK LAMP SHADES

Since engaging on social media, I have met so many wonderful people - both online and in real life. One person I've met and have had the pleasure of collaborating with is Leslie Carothers, the CEO of The Kaleidoscope Partnership. Recently, Leslie referred me to a social media client of hers, Leslie Hendrix Wood, to be a blog contributor to the Hadley Court interior design blog. I also had the pleasure of meeting Leslie Hendrix Wood this past March in LA at the Design Bloggers Conference, where Leslie's blog Hadley Court was awarded Design Blog of the Year. Thrilled to collaborate with Leslie & Leslie, please be sure to stop by the Hadley Court blog to view my first contribution post: Trend Pin Tuesday: Black Lamp Shades, where you'll see the Top 5 most pinned images of rooms using black lamp shades, as well as tips to incorporate this trend into your own home...

As stated by Interior Designer Jan Showers, "Every room needs a touch of black, just as it needs one antique piece" -- and one way to achieve this concept is with a black lamp shade...

Happy to be blogging again after my trip back east, and thrilled to be collaborating with Leslie Hendrix Wood of Hadley Court...

HAPPY BY DESIGN - MY COLLABORATION WITH HOMEGOODS

I'm super excited! Today kicks off a fun collaboration with 10 interior designers for a Happy By Design - designer program hosted by -- HomeGoods! Yes - I love to go thrifting, but when I want to mix in some newness into our home or stay stylish on a moderate budget for a clients space - HomeGoods is my go to source! When Jessica from HomeGoods had sent out the invitation earlier this July, one of the tasks we all had to do was to take the StyleScope Quiz on the HomeGoods site (you can too! I'm "Set Sail with a touch of Traveler"). We also had to answer some survey questions about our finds from HomeGoods and for me, it brought back a flood of (happy) memories.

 Quick Decor Trick:
Give a dark chair a splash of color: Use a table-runner for banding.

I know it may sound strange that some purchases at a store can cause good memory flashbacks - but it did. For instance, my first apartment (an awesome 1940's building in Bay Harbor) had wood floors throughout plus an open living / dining space plan. Nearby where I worked at the time was the first HomeGoods I had ever been into (back in the 90's!). One of my first HomeGoods purchases (of MANY more to come - little did I know) I made during my first visit. I remember it like it was yesterday: I spotted an awesome metal & glass étagère, located a flatbed, hauled it up to the front of the store, loaded into my car and brought it back to my apartment...

From that moment on, I was HomeGoods hooked!!

That étagère has been with me now since my apartment, then moved with me into Jeff's condo when we lived together, moved to our first home we bought together in Pembroke Pines, it moved outside when we built our patio and now -- it has traveled across the country and is taking a beating outside in the hot Arizona sun - but still looks as beautiful as ever. I watched it become the naturally rustic piece it is today...

Create a cozy outdoor living space with an étagère.
The étagère - a fantastic way to add a vertical element to a space - inside or out - without carrying the weight of a built-in bookcase. Great for holding books, collections of jewelry boxes inside or plants and candles outside on the patio.

Besides that étagère, I can remember doing back-flips when I spotted a Barcelona chair at the HomeGoods in Pembroke Pines - It was on a sunny Sunday morning and I put the chair on hold. Jeff was at work but came back to the store with me later that day to check it out. When we went back to the store, I noticed a button was missing off the cushion and I freaked. The Store Manager noticed I was upset and took off (brace yourself) $100 from the ticketed price (now THAT IS customer service!) so I got the chair for only $250 (and the button was easy to fix!). Don't shoot me - it's not a real Barcelona - but it still makes me happy... and it has also become Sephora's happy place too...

Besides these little style stories of my personal experiences with being HomeGoods Happy, I'll be sharing my HomeGoods finds I've used in a few client makeovers (from Florida to Arizona), along with the 10 other designers.

You'll be able to browse, learn, share, tweet and pin your favorite room designs shared by the 10 designers for the HG designer program on the Happy By Design board. The board is launching today on Pinterest and will also be featured on the HomeGoods website next week! We'll all be pinning 2-3 of our project images each week for the month of August - sharing our decor tips plus our HomeGoods finds we've used in client projects and our own home - along with sharing why that one special piece (or three!) make a room (or even a tablescape) do the happy dance!

Check out the HomeGoods blog - Happy Design and follow the board on Pinterest at Happy By Design

I made a separate board of my favorite HomeGoods finds (not officially affiliated with this program) - from my style spotting in HomeGoods stores to projects I've designed using their fab finds you can also follow at: Homegoods Happy

I'm truly thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful group of designers and I'm looking forward to learning some new tips from their fresh perspectives! Be sure to stop by each of the design blogs to get more in depth details about their shared design projects.

A COASTAL STYLE COLLABORATION WITH 1stDibs

If you've read my posts, seen my pins, or known me through the years - you know I love vintage and thrift. So imagine how thrilled & honored I was to have received an invitation to be a Guest Editor of Coastal Style for 1stdibs! The 1stdibs headquarters are located in New York, but they offer the world's finest & best selection of antique and vintage pieces - from fashion, to fine jewelry & art, to collectibles & furniture - all with the convenience of the click of a button online. One of the great things about social media is being able to team up with people and collaborate with companies - no matter where you're located. Teaming up with 1stdibs, I was able to utilize my interior style experience plus my visual merchandising expertise to create a coastal style selection of 1stdibs pieces plus inspirational images repinned from Pinterest.

"Longing for sandy days in the tropics and evenings on the East Coast, Interior Stylist and all-around creative force Lynda Quintero-Davids went beach-combing on 1stdibs. Inspired by the seaside outposts of classic designers such as Ralph Lauren and Barclay Butera, she assembled a breezy, sun-kissed collection that perfectly conveys the coastal lifestyle."

While visiting the pinboard Coastal Style, people are sure to be inspired, but it can also be a little overwhelming. To further help people visualize the Coastal Lifestyle pins, I also created a few lifestyle boards. Here's a screenshot of a portion of coastal style pins...

One of the many items I was crushing on while combing through all the beautiful pieces at 1stdibs  was this Regency Gilt-wood Convex Mirror - Circa 1815

I used the porthole style of the convex mirror as part of my inspiration to look through some of the fabulous fine jewelry and vintage dresses on their site. I spotted some gorgeous lapis azules stones paired with gold and a bold blue  Salvatore Ferragamo silk animal print gown (as seen on Jennifer Lopez!) Inspired by the blues, whites and gold combination, I created a lifestyle board called Coastal Couture Blues...

FURNISHINGS:

One of my original inspirations to pull together blue + white + gold + natural came from iconic American designers such as Barclay Butera and Ralph Lauren...

Coastal Style, however, need not all only be done in shades of blue and white. Even the most classic black & white combination can have a more Traditional - Hamptons coastal style, while a mix of vintage accents and chippy painted woods can reflected a more rustic & relaxed coastal style. Luckily, 1stdibs has both looks to choose from...

Traditional Style - Hamptons Coastal Couture

Relaxed Coastal Style

Both above coastal lifestyle boards I created were inspired by sailing off the east coast.

Along with being grateful for the invite from 1stdibs, I LOVE the way 1stdibs created a quote pin for our ‪Coastal Style‬ board. When I was invited to pin, I was also asked to give them a quote about my personal style and one about what makes shopping at 1stdibs special.

There are so many beautiful pieces pinned and TONS more on their site (I could get lost on there for hours!) but rather than keep on sharing here in this post, it's probably better if you see the pins for yourself. Stop by and visit the Coastal Style board
for more Coastal Style inspiration and to even shop while you pin.

On the 1stdibs site you can find collection assortments featured in other categories such as Country Club, Endless Summer, Small Spaces and -- just in time for the Royal Baby: Haute Nursery. Some other 1sidibs collaboration with well known designers have been Kelly Wearstler, Grant K Gibson, and Kathryn Ireland to name a few...
