The winds of change are in the air! Time to head out, clean out, clear out, make a few changes to your home plus wardrobe for the cooler weather months ahead and also start some fall travel. Getting out of the house to support local businesses is a great way to kick off your fall season - and even help get you "in the mood" if you're not already. Most Arizona Farmer's Markets Summer hours are still in effect (because of the heat) but will shift come October when it's cooler. Keep an eye on the markets at ArizonaFarmersMarkets.com. Looking for fun & festive decor for your home?  WoMAC - It's In the Bag Fund Raiser - Phoenix Art Museum

It's In The Bag - Phoenix Art Museum
Saturday, September 27

The Women's Metropolitan Arts Council (WoMAC) is hosting its sixth annual fundraiser. “It’s In The Bag!” is an evening of cocktails, gourmet hors d'oeuvres prepared by local chefs, shopping, and fun that provides Phoenix Art Museum guests with the ultimate night out. Dine on food from local restaurants St. Francis, Gallo Blanco, Del Friscos, Nook Pizzeria, Nothing Bundt Cakes & Urban Cookies. Drink from an open bar plus enjoy wine tastings by two local wineries.

The event boasts live entertainment and a silent auction. This is an excellent means to meet and socialize with art museum members plus attendees while raising money for the Phoenix Art Museum.

The title of the event stems from the concept that items will be auctioned with a thematic bag. Whether the bag is a designer bag with theatre tickets or a gym bag with a gift certificate for personal training sessions, there is something for everyone.

Tickets are $75 each - available online at: PhxArt.org

In October, when temps will start to drop (a little) Phoenix will host even a few more metropolitan events such as art festivals, a jazz festival and - Phoenix Fashion Week, which is sponsored by Mercedes Benz (just as New York Fashion Week!)

If the valley is still to hot for you, now is a great time to take a drive up north to Sedona. You can read my previous series - Sedona in September at:

Hope you get out and get inspired!

Thanks for stopping by.

10th Annual Design On A Dime Featured Vignette Rooms

Thursday evening kicked off this years 10th Annual Design On A Dime fundraising event at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. This is New York City’s most popular interior design benefit, with tons of talent and designer donations all cleverly creating well thought out various and unforgettable room vignettes with new (donated) merchandise. The merchandise sells for 50% to 70% off retail pricing at the DOAD fundraising three day event. All of the profits from the Design on a Dime event help Housing Works “Get A Room” for homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. You can read more about the Housing Works organization in my previous post, About Housing Works Thrift & Design On A Dime plus also take a behind the scenes peek at how one of the participating designers, Patrick J. Hamilton, created his vignette at another previous event, Charity Causes: How To Get Vignette Set -- And also be sure to see all the behind the scenes before and after pics of this years DOAD event at Mon Oncle, by Rio Hamilton. Living here in the southwest, I wasn't unable to attend, however thanks to social media, here is a collection of just a few faves from this years vignettes, shared via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram during the event...

Love the Spore Mirror, (part of the Barry Dixon Inc Collection at Arteriors) in this DOAD room vignette designed by Patrick J. Hamilton - The perfect balance of both masculine & feminine created in a space...

Truly a clever application and even play on words - 'design on a dime'. Attendee Jonathan Legate learned the prints on the back wall were sheets of paper in poster frames. The paper is a gorgeous marble paper from Thailand, available at: Paper Source. (They actually have a location here in Scottsdale!!) Each sheet is 25" x 37" and only costs $8 each. Talk about getting the most bang for your buck - That wall is a WOW factor!

LOVE the application of the arched mirror, used to create a window within the bookcases, for this vignette...

Tamara Matthews-Stephenson (second from left) and DOAD guest Jonathan Legate.

LOVE the fabric wall covering...

Director of the Design on a Dime Event, Mel Alvarez (left) with designer Tyler Wisler & his beautiful assistant Paula.

Proud Robin Baron in her DOAD vignette.

DOAD designer Nicole Gibbons posing in her vignette.

Michael Tavano Design DOAD room vignette...

And last but not least, one of many faves from this year's 10th Annual Design On A Dime room vignette designs... A room inspired by Carrie Bradshaw's Closet - How it would be today...

The room started with this GORGEOUS Greek Key wall covering from Lee Jofa, and transformed into...

Unbelievable - the talent, dedication and hard work that went into all of the room vignettes and coordinating this special event... Truly amazing! For a complete list of all the designers and list of sponsors, visit Design On A Dime at Housing Works...

Thursday evening may have been the Opening Night Reception, but now the event is open to the public: April 25 & 26... So get out in NYC and shop for a great cause!

Congrats to all and thanks for stopping by!

DWELL WITH DIGNITY & THE DESIGN BLOGGERS CONFERENCE

I'm so happy and excited for Dwell with Dignity! Dwell with Dignity is a Dallas-based non-profit organization driven by one amazing mission: to use interior design (and even now art!) to bring hope and happiness to families struggling with poverty and homelessness. I’m a believer in Dwell with Dignity’s cause. Since first learning about Dwell with Dignity on the Nate Berkus show almost 3 years ago, I’ve been watching them grow, helping to spread their word through sharing on social media, and hoping for other chapters to open outside the Dallas area so I can volunteer. And it looks like that may be coming true, now that Dwell with Dignity has branched out to the Atlanta area with their first home project – All the more reason why I was honored to guest blog about Dwell with Dignity on the Hadley Court blog!

Visit the newly re-designed Hadley Court site to read my guest blog contribution - Meet Dallas' Dwell with Dignity - A Non-Profit Organization Inspiring Lives With Design, plus get info for their upcoming Spring Thrift Studio, whose Honorary Chair this year will be Ronda Rice Carman, Founder of the lifestyle blog, All The Best Blog | A Passport to Stylish Living. Dwell with Dignity's Founder & President Lisa Robison, along with Vice President & Director Kim Turner will both be guest speakers at this years Design Bloggers Conference, coming up this weekend in Atlanta.

One of the supporters for Dwell with Dignity – Peacock Alley – will be hosting a “Wrap Party” this Sunday from 2:30 – 5:30 pm in honor of Dwell with Dignity wrapping up their first ATLANTA home installation and first installation outside of the Dallas Market! What a wonderful way to kick off the Design Bloggers Conference this year, starting Sunday!

I so wish I could have attended, especially this year for this milestone maker for Dwell with Dignity. I am though grateful to have met both Lisa & Kim at last years Design Bloggers Conference, and I'm sure Leslie Wood will get to speak with them when she attends with Leslie Carothers this weekend. Definitely be sure to visit Hadley Court to read all about it - here.

Congratulations Dwell with Dignity and here's to much continued success, changing and inspiring lives with design, one household at a time.

Thanks for stopping by!
