A MOTHER's DAY DIY + BRUNCH DINING ALFRESCO

Hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful weekend and had a Happy Mother's day yesterday! How did you celebrate your mom? Did you do a simple gathering with close family members? A big cookout at a park? Did you take mom out to brunch? Or did you just do something simple and just spend time with your mom? Last year, we did a barbecue - Jeff was off, and my mom brought her friend Marcia. This year, my mom and I had some "mother - daughter" time, and I did what she likes most - I made things for her. Not in a crafty way, but just simply put together...

Move loves salads, so I thought this salad I made would work well with her other faves: fruits and bagels. The salad was very easy to make: One bag mixed Italian, with 1/2 a chopped roasted lemon-pepper chicken, 2/3 of a container of traditional feta, and half a bag of mixed nuts and raisins - all tossed with a yummy sweet raspberry vinaigrette dressing...

A simple throw of a throw covered our metal outdoor table. Two pintuck stripe covered pillows added comfort and picked up on the red stripe s in the throw. To not clutter up the table, I brought out a round rattan ottoman from inside. It worked as a simple space saver and place to put a serving tray...

A pedestal milk glass bowl I picked up for only $4 while thrifting Saturday afternoon made a great way to serve a fresh fruit mixture I pulled together: one pre-cut melon bowl from Publix and I added in fresh grapes and strawberries. While I tossed the salad, we sipped on some mimosas...

Although I had set the outdoor table for mom with two teapot arrangements I made, when we were ready to sit and eat, I shifted them to the nearby eteger...

The teapots I actually found thrifting back in January (or February) for only $2 each. I knew when I saw them I wanted to make arrangements with them...

The arrangements were super simple: Saturday, I picked up two bunches of tea roses (for a fractions of what the stands & stores were selling them for 1 doz. at only $8) along with two bunches of whit mums. I just cleaned & filled the teapots with water (and a flower food packet), cut the stems, and started to randomly layer in the flowers to the teapot. No oasis or rubber band needed. I left the leaves on the roses to give it a just picked in the garden look...

On the table, I used one pillar candle holder to give height to the composition. Since mom loves shells and the ocean, I brought some scallop shells and coral out to the table...

A sweet treat for dessert was this adorable heart shaped cake I spotted in Publix Saturday afternoon. I couldn't resist: white chocolate & raspberry shortcake. I set it on the tray, along with a simple arrangement I made from some of the leftover flowers. I had it on the counter along with her present...

A simple white frame and a printed recent photo, plus cards and her favorite scented candle... not to mention the two teapot arrangements I made were her gifts. She was going to separate the arrangements at her home, but I suggested she use them on her bedroom end tables, on top of a stack of books.

Thankfully, the Florida weather was cooperative - not too humid or too hot and just sunny enough for our alfresco mothers day together. Although we were under the shade of a tree sheltering our patio, we did spend the rest of the afternoon inside... having an overdue "mother - daughter" chat ;-)

Have a great week!

  6. Beautiful table and I enjoyed reading about how you spent Mother's Day. Your mother I know must appreciate such a loving young daughter. My mother is no longer with us but my family, 3 grown kidlets and four soon to be five grand children took me out to our country club for lunch and later I enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at home.

  7. Just lovely. Your attention to detail is marvelous. It's neat how you used the basket for extra space next to the table. Being a huge teapot fan, the arrangements are at the top of my list. Thanks for being a part of Seasonal Sundays. Hope to see you next Sunday.
