Tried & Love a NEW Paint Product: Clark + Kensington Paint + Primer in One @ Ace

What a great promo! Last Friday morning, while watching Good Morning America, they did a segment called Freebie Friday. On it, GMA featured a free quart give-a-way (for Saturday March 10th only) of a new paint product called Clark + Kensington Paint + Primer in One, available at Ace Hardware. Although I'm a lover of Ralph Lauren paints, it's not as readily available since being dropped at Home Depot a few years ago. Since the C+K paint would be free, I decided to give it a try - which was exactly the purpose of the promo.

Because of this promotion for Clark + Kensington paint + primer in one, I tried a NEW product and LOVE it! Saturday afternoon, I picked up my free quart, but with the intention of selecting a color to repaint the buffet (the one I painted red last fall). While we were at our local Ace Hardware (in Gilbert, AZ), I learned that they could color match Benjamin Moore colors to the Clark + Kensington line (which saves a little $$$) so I also went ahead and got a gallon of the Clark + Kensington paint + primer to paint one room downstairs.

Although the C+K can says "Low VOC", it was pretty strong... BUT the paint + primer gave EXCELLENT coverage, applied well, minimal drips and dried quick. Ace Hardware manufactures this paint in its facilities in northern Illinois. Jeff painted the walls, while I cut in at ceilings, corners, and around trim. I was concerned the existing two-toned paint would effect the application oh the C+K paint, and at first, it looked like it might not cover - but the C+K paint dried flawless (and with minimal ghosts!)

The color I chose from my Benjamin Moore color deck was called Copper Patina (#619)

The room BEFORE: I don't get the color blocked wall treatment.
it was in two finishes: The blue was almost semi-gloss, while the off-white was a flat
builder grade paint.

Jeff being silly, but also worked to test the paint...

Cause for concern, but problem solved.
Clark + Kensington Paint + Primer in one really works!

Paint past the pet test. Sephora approved :)

It actually took longer and two coats to cover the white trim with Behr paint than it did do paint the room (only 1 and a 1/2 hours + EZ clean up.) Not only could I see the difference in coverage while applying the paint, but I could feel the difference too (so did Jeff!). Also a HUGE difference using this Ace Hardware Clark + Kensington paint vs. using Home Depot's Glidden (we had used to paint our rental.) All walls with Glidden took TWO coats to cover, which also equaled more time to accomplish.
More great product info in the video...
Thanks Ace for a great promotion and thanks also for creating the new Clark + Kensington  AWESOME paint product!! (NOTE: No, ACE did not pay me to write this. This was written on my own because I just liked the product that much!)
I'll be doing another post today for March Moodboard Madness... But I really wanted to let you know about the great new paint product!
Thank you for stopping by...

  1. I love your post! I got a quart of the new paint from ACE too, only I had a hideously dark, olive green/blackish cupboard to transform. I had high hopes, but wasn't too sure, especially when I got home and realized the paint sample was enamel and very thin.
Was I ever SHOCKED at the paint! Not only did it cover the darker paint below, it was very low odor, dried super fast and washed off the brush easily too!
Now I want more; I'm going to paint EVERYthing! :-)
I highly recommend this new product! Bravo ACE!!!

  2. I am looking forward to trying this paint. Did not like the Glidden either...I really missed the Ralph Lauren, it was amazing paint with an amazing color pallet! Nice to know that you can recommend it! Off to Ace I go! :)

  3. This must be a paid sponsored blog because this is one of the worst paints I have used in my 25 plus years of professional painting.

    1. Hi Bill.

NO - I'm NOT a paid sponsored blog at all. My honest experience is as I wrote about - I really loved the paint. It went on smooth and easy and gave GREAT coverage, especially considering I was covering a two-tone wall. I also used the paint again recently, on a furniture piece, and its coverage was AGAIN fantastic - easy application, great coverage and true color. The added bonus going to ACE to get the paint, they were able to color match a Benjamin Moore color (both times) and I was able to save money.

I'm not the only one who likes C&K paints - Posted in Jan. 2013 "Consumer Reports found Clark+Kensington paint to be tops in satin and semigloss finishes, and among the best for flat paints. It was also impressive at hiding, leaving a smooth finish that resisted stains, and scrubbing. Its volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are low enough to meet the toughest, regional California standards. While Clark+Kensington is available only at Ace stores, other paints that were great at hiding, durable, washable, and low in VOCs, are as close as Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Benjamin Moore retailers." Hopefully Bill, you'll give Clark & Kensington another try.

    2. I like Clark Kensington ( not their colors) But their cans are the pits...very cheap..If you open a can more than once they are hell...the lid bends all out of shape ( using a proper paint can opener even)...I found hard dried paint on the lid even though it was well put on and I had to almost tear the damn thing off. So the second time is even worse...the lids even bend out of shape..Attachments are hard to use with them also..pourers etc. The first coat doesn't got that far do to the primer so adjust your sq. footage accordingly..

  4. Lynda,
I was wondering if you could tell me how much square feet a gallon covered? I know ACE's website gives a specific amount, but I'd like to know reality. If you look at my blog, I have a HORRID mural to cover in my classroom. Not to mention, three other colors are painted in my new room that I need to cover. As you know, a teachers budget is pretty tight.
